There has been the release of a couple of good books of late within the field of 'humanities computing'. The first is by Willard McCarty from King College London (well know as the long time moderator of the Humanist discussion list) modestly titled 'Humanities Computing '. And the second is titled 'A Companion to Digital Humanities ' Edited by: SUSAN SCHREIBMAN (University of Maryland), RAY SIEMENS (UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA) and JOHN UNSWORTH (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) Humanities Computing is the more rigorous and dare I say 'upmarket' manifestation of digital technologies in the humanities (which in Australia has taken quite a beating; partly due to the rise of slavish process-led and market focused models of applied 'research' and partly due to the placement of non-technical experts in senior 'humanities computing' positions). Humanities computing is a technical practice within a disciplinary framework, however for some academics the old dictum applies 'move down-market and double your salary'.
