With only 43 days left until the end of the 20th Century it is possibly

important for us, as members of a public institution that is perhaps

reflective of and dogged by late 20th Century nihilism, apathy and

expediency, to think about the road maps that got us here. Most of us

probably wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the golden age at the end of the

Second World War (1947-1973) that ended in university education being made

free. This Century started with Western Europe controlling over 80% of the

world’s land mass (that included Australia) and ended in Australians being

tricked into voting for the English establishment by the ‘battler elite’

who called for a popular elected president in a country that doesn’t even

have a popularly elected Prime Minister! Technology fed into the politics

of Nationalism, Fascism, Communism and Colonialism and resulted in two

world wars in which one of the most civilised and advanced Western

societies, Germany, committed on of the most barbaric acts of human

history, the holocaust. In 1949 Von Neuman invented the architecture for

what is today’s most common computer (and arguably not much has happened

since except smaller and faster machines). America was the first and last

county to use Nuclear weapons in aggression and destroyed two Japanese

cities killing hundreds of thousands of people. Twice this century Western

civilisation has thought that this is it, its all over. The first time was

during WWI when most of the world’s countries were at war with each other.

The second was during the cold war and the Bay of Pigs. Communism took over

two thirds of the World’s population, then went away. The Avant Garde dies

as does the industrial working class

Dear Fellow Un-evolved Rock Apes,

Of course factions of the web community think that the web is ‘the natural

evolution of human knowledge”…they get paid for it and they have a great

investment in convincing the public that they are ‘intelligent’. There is

no such thing as natural evolution of human knowledge. Try convincing the

Australian Tax payer who pays for your education of this. What is “natural

evolution” when attached to commercial technological innovation? I call it

fascism. DVD was released about 15 years ago. Is this ‘natural evolution’

or the pitfalls of sales and marketing. How can ‘evolution’ drive

technological innovation? Who are the web’s greatest thinkers? Perhaps you

are a genius Damian but seeing as though we aren’t allowed to contextualise

or “…limit….our understanding of these terms to such outdated

interpretations” we will never know.

I will send all those stupid and outdated book writers around to see you

one day and you can seduce them with your

voodoo and incense sticks. Perhaps we can all get naked and chant praise to

the great god Macroman who is at the cutting edge

of human knowledge and doesn’t need to contextualise himself because he is

beyond this.

Anyhow, I am a more evolved species than you anyway. I am bigger and

smarter and braver and better looking so it is me and my work that is

really the best and the most evolved and the evolution of all human

intellectual endeavor so you better be careful. My

milkbar is going to take over the world and everyone’s brain and then I

will be the great god Macroman and revel in the fact that I

am smarter than everyone else because me and Charles Darwin are bed buddies.
