Milkbar.com.au: Meta-data Analysis Engine (Content is King!)

This is a ‘hypertextual history’ documentary about the inner-city suburb of Fitzroy, in Melbourne, Australia. If you have been redirected here from milkbar.com.au, then most of the work is no longer generally available, however some of the major components of the work still are.

This is an experiment using a ‘meta-data analysis engine‘ to categorise and search (video-recorded) oral-history online (completed October 2002). You can search the 12 hours of interviews via the 4 categories that I have indexed within the video (there are about 200 index points). You can arrange and re-arrange the video according to an active, user-centred approach. This reveals the complex task of working with oral history and its multiple set of relationships and subjectivities. This work formed part of the ETD project (Electronic Thesis and Dissertation) Milkbar.com.au. The project won the ‘Innovative Learning through ETD Award’ at the 2005 International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Disertation.

    This Poster Printing Tool is pretty good. It Prints any image up to the size of a wall, split into A4 Pages. You just have to glue em together. Good for artists and activists who cant spend 60 bugs on an A0 Poster print …

    I am currently researching on interactive documentry as a peacebuilding tool and working with a database driven storytelling system called Korsakow. I am particularly interested in your Imagining Vietnam - 1950 to 1975 interactive documentary which I accessed on http://www.rmit.edu.au/aim/RESarea19.html.

    I would like to reference it and read more about it. Could you please suggest how I can do that.

    Thanks for your comment. But that project didn’t eventuate because of Copyright. You may with to check out Milkbar though and I will certainly look at the Kprsakow software.

    Hi Susheel, there are some excellent work on the effects of globalisation on Australia. Try this; it is a good introduction to the topic:

    Wiseman, John, Australia and the Politics of Globalisation, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1998.
